Gholdy Muhammad: Culturally & Historically Responsive Education for Equity and Excellence

Dr. Gholdy Muhammad Culturally & Historically Responsive Education for Equity and Excellence

(Refresher & Practical Application Virtual Sessions)

Target Audience: Educators K-12

 This follow-up session with Dr. Gholdy Muhammad is designed to be not only a refresher for past participants of our Cultivating Genius session, but also incorporate the newest teachings in the CHRE framework. Regardless of your familiarity with this work, Dr. Muhammad will clearly define culture, equity, anti-racism, and culturally & historically responsive education. Together, culture will be explored and revisited in profound, multifaceted ways. The session will also re-introduce participants to the model of culturally and historically responsive education and include exemplary model(s) of CHRE lessons.

 In the second session, you will bring a lesson or unit that you want to specifically revise to incorporate these teachings and framework. We limit the number of participants in this workshop so that she can meet with you in your teams or breakout groups to give specific support and feedback to your work.

 Outcomes:

  • Educators will gain an understanding of culture, equity, anti-racism, and culturally & historically responsive instruction (CHRE);

  • Educators will learn why youth and teachers need CHRE to advance equity and excellence and how CHRE can be used to improve and advance pedagogical practices;

  • Educators will observe exemplar CHRE lesson and unit plans across the contents and grade levels and have time to work on their own unit/lesson to incorporate the CHRE framework with Dr. Muhammad’s input!
